OFF-GRID ENCRYPTED MESH

MESH WHISPERER

Encrypted messaging that works when the network does not.

The idea

Mesh Whisperer is a peer-to-peer messaging protocol that does not need a server, a tower, or an internet connection to deliver a message. Phones near each other form a local mesh, then relay messages across the mesh until they reach the recipient. If a path exists, the message arrives.

Identity is cryptographic, not phone-number based. Each device generates a keypair on first launch. Messages are signed by the sender, encrypted to the recipient, and verified end-to-end. A blockchain anchor protects against tampering and replay, without putting message contents on chain.

It is being built for the places where messaging quietly fails. Festivals, demonstrations, expeditions, disaster zones, regions where infrastructure is hostile or absent. The same protocol works at city scale and at canyon scale, with the same guarantees.

Capabilities

WHAT IT DOES

Peer-to-peer mesh

Phones discover each other over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Direct, with optional LoRa hardware for kilometer-range hops.

End-to-end encryption

Signal-grade ratcheting per conversation. Keys never leave the device. Messages are unreadable to anything in the middle.

Blockchain-anchored integrity

A public ledger of message hashes prevents tampering and replay, without exposing the content of any message.

Store and forward

Messages survive offline gaps. Intermediaries hold encrypted bytes until a path opens.

No accounts, no servers

Identity is a public key. Recovery is a recovery phrase. There is nothing in the middle to compromise.

Works without internet

The mesh runs entirely on local radios. Connectivity is a bonus, not a dependency.

Under the hood

HOW THE MESH WORKS

Five steps from a tap to a delivered message.

  1. 01

    Identity

On install, the device generates an Ed25519 keypair. The public key is the address.

  2. 02

    Discovery

Nearby devices announce their public key over BLE and Wi-Fi Direct beacons. No central registry.

  3. 03

    Encrypt

Messages are wrapped in a Double Ratchet session per recipient, signed, then chunked for delivery.

  4. 04

    Route

A gossip protocol carries the message through the mesh. Intermediaries hold encrypted bytes only, with no visibility into sender or content.

  5. 05

    Verify

On arrival, the recipient checks the signature, decrypts, and writes the message hash to a public anchor for non-repudiation.
